How to Find Class A CDL Truck Driving Jobs

Trucking jobs have always been a first choice of people looking for some fun in their job.  With a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) you get to see new towns and meet people from across the country.  The U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook says openings will grow 5% from 2014 through to 2024.

With more drivers acquiring a Class A CDL for interstate tractor trailers you have to be innovative in order to find a trucking job fast.

Here are some tips that will start you off:

  1. Get experience fast: There are many companies offering Over the Road (OTR) to drivers who carry a CDL Class A and this should be your first stop. You have to appreciate the importance of experience on the road especially when it comes to trailers.
  2. Build and nurture networks: You should never overlook any opportunity to create relationships in the industry. Talk to your trainers and ask them where you can easily find new postings. Make sure you give out your contacts to anyone related to the trucking industry.
  3. Use the internet: This is where all employers are looking for new talent. You can build your profile by building a LinkedIn profile stating your experience, training and any other qualities that can help build your credentials.
  4. Use dedicated trailer truck sites: There are websites dedicated to the trucking industry. You can also join forums focusing on this industry to build a network and increase chances of finding new openings. Job posting boards are also a popular option if you are looking for Class A CDL driving openings.
  5. Keep abreast with industry trends: If at all you want to get a job fast make sure you know what is happening in the industry. For instance are there any regulation changes regarding axles? What has changed about DOT testing? Do you need to undergo further safety training?
